Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) results
as a consequence of a severely heightened
response
to an event. The event may, in reality
be shocking, for example a serious car
accident or sexual assault, or it may have
been perceived as shocking.
Treatment for P.T.S.D. involves therapeutic
help, which
focuses upon reframing the shocking memory
as a past event, and putting it into a
realistic perspective. By doing so, debilitating
intrusive thoughts and fears are lessened
and life can continue as before.
